Not showing up on Google? Here's what actually helps.
Not showing up can mean three different things. Here's how to tell which one you have, and what helps with each.
Three situations, three different fixes.
- 1
Your website isn't on Google at all.
How to check: search site:yourwebsite.com on Google. If nothing comes up, Google hasn't found your site yet.
What helps: make sure nothing blocks Google, add the site to Google Search Console and submit a sitemap. A new site can take days to a few weeks to appear.
- 2
It shows up for your name, but not for what you do.
This is the most common situation, especially for newer sites. Google knows you exist but has no strong reason yet to show you for searches like "paralegal near me".
What helps: give each service its own page, written the way customers describe their problem, with clear page titles and descriptions and the places you serve.
- 3
You don't appear on the map.
For local searches, the map results sit above the websites. They come from your Google Business Profile, not from your website.
What helps: complete the profile (services, photos, hours, the right categories), keep it active, and ask happy customers for reviews.
What takes time, and what no one can promise.
The basics, done properly from day one.
- Clear page titles and descriptions for every page
- A page for each service, written for the people searching
- Google Search Console and a sitemap, so Google finds every page
- Fast, mobile-friendly pages
- Guidance on your Google Business Profile
- Tracking, so you can see what's working
